The kick-off meeting of the European project, B-New, which is 50% financed by the European Regional Development Fund, took place on 4th April 2012 in Quimper in Brittany, The event took place in the presence of Pierre Maille, President of Finistère County Council and Michaël Quernez, Vice-President. This project is led by the Finistère County Council in Brittany in conjunction with five French and two English partners. The aim of this project is to encourage women entrepreneurship and the kick-off meeting was joined by four women who have created their own companies and who came along to share their experiences.
Pascale Demontfaucon of PDM Consultants, formerly the head of Agrauxine, now helps companies which would like to use tax credits for research project. The support of the Entreprendre au Féminin network enables her to share her professional and personal experiences as a women entrepreneur. A real helping hand and useful network when you start a busines‚¬Â . Today I’m a member of the strategic committee of Entreprendre au Féminin and I pass on my experience to young women starting companies, it shows the relevance of a women entrepreneurs network.
Sophie Deniel of Bookbéo in Brest, an innovative company which uses QR codes to integrate multimedia content into books, print media and marketing material commented It isn’t easy to carry on an innovative and technologically advanced project as a woman, you have to be twice as convincing . I had an idea and really wanted to do it and I had to find the technical solutions to realize it. ‚ Sophie submitted her project to Telecom Bretagne which offered her a place in its incubator. Bookbéo is still developing and currently has 5 employees.
Anne-Sophie Le Gallic from Fifi Bastille, a company based in the Saint-Brieuc Incubator center designs fashion accessory for naughty kids and mother‚¬Â . She focused her speech on the balance between work and home It’s a question of organization, if you want to have enough time to do everything, the support of your husband is indispensable. However, the world of fashion is more feminine, so my project was better and more easily received than perhaps a technological company created by women.
Anne Duncan of Renergy Marine, in Saint Brieuc has created active hull, propulsion and control technologies for boats, which offers 60% fuel savings compared to other boats. She recognizes that sometimes in this masculine field the help of my husband and co-founder of the company is valuable, in particular in front of investors.
The goal of B-New is to support women entrepreneurship, which currently only represents a third of business creations. The project will analyse the bridle obstacles for women who want to set up their business. It will also create a network of enterprising women across the channel to enable them to exchange their experiences and, perhaps, even to work together.
